Bunnicula
We have been reading Bunnicula by James and Deborah Howe. I've enjoyed talking about the characters and their actions with my students. I'd love to know if you can find ways to connect with the story? Can you think of anything you read that made you think of your own life? (text to self) Maybe a part of the novel reminded you of another book you have read. (text to text). Is there something happening in the world around you that made you think of the Bunnicula story? (text to world). Let me know about connections you made while you were reading. Don't forget to give me a lot of details! :)

Hurricane Madness!
What a crazy start to the school year. We barely got to know each other before we had a week of unexpected vacation from school! I hope all of you are safe and well, and that you are looking forward to returning to school Tuesday. I'm looking forward to beginning our year together once again, and I'm eager to hear all of the stories I'm sure you have to tell. See you soon!

Welcome Back to School!
I am so excited about the start of the 2011-2012 school year! I spent a lot of time this summer planning activities, choosing novels to read, and thinking about the possibilities we have as we start a brand new school year together. I hope you are excited about the start of your fifth grade year as well. Together we are going to have lots of fun exploring new novels, becoming better readers, and learning about our country.
Our classroom blog is an opportunity for you, me, and your classmates to communicate about topics we discuss at school. We can use our blog to discuss things we are reading, knowledge we are learning, or just to discuss what is happening in our classroom. Communicating with one another will help us learn. My only requirement is that all posts remain respectful.
I look forward to spending time with you and learning with you this school year. Let's make the 2011-2012 school year the best you have ever had!
